The third quarter opened on much firmer footing than the year began. Second quarter closed with income of 153K against a budgeted 174K, and expenses of 186K against a budgeted 167K, leaving us with a 33K operating loss for the quarter. Year to date through August we have brought in 333K of the 461K budgeted and spent 369K of the 421K budgeted, putting us 36K in the red for the year so far, against a budgeted surplus of 40K at this point.
July, however, was by far our strongest month. A large rental push brought in 143K of income against 80K in expenses, putting July alone 63K in the black. August is still too early to read — only 156 of income and 11K of expenses had been posted as of the first week of the month — but 36K in guest-group rental is already confirmed for August, and another 141K is under contract for September through November. Taken together, confirmed and completed guest-group rental contracts for the full year now stand at roughly 516K against a 533K budget for that line, which should keep us within reach of target, if that pipeline holds.
The return of Royal Family Kids Kings Harbor this summer has really tripled our joy as they have added twice the number of foster children that we get to serve. We are excited that they are really embracing SBCC as their new camp home.
TRAC Boys and Girls groups were a success and they have already been rebooked for 2027.
New Bunkhouse: the team was able to get the exterior wrapped up before summer groups kicked off. Water pressure and volume continue to be a burden, and we are still collecting bids for the project.
Ruben Villarreal has been actively closing out the maintenance backlog — broken doorjamb, pool soap dispenser, rockwall bench repair, wasp control, trail map re-mount, Boys Cabins’ bathroom deck. Steady, unglamorous stuff, and it's so helpful.
We are scheduled for a health inspection for the first time since before Covid. This provided the incentive to get a bunch of little projects wrapped up with urgency.
This summer's team was a wonderful crew. We had so many guests and campers singing their praises and actually seeking me out to commend our staff for their wonderful attitudes and helpfulness. We spent the summer in the Gospel of John, helping staff to see, know, and experience Jesus.
Three of the staff head back to college on the 15th, while we await decisions from two more about their post-summer plans. Please be praying that the Lord will provide the part-time help we need to get us through the next couple months.
